The Galaxy S4 release date is just a few months away as engineers and developers in Samsung's headquarters work on the device, which has been codenamed "Project J." Word on the street is that the new device will be unveiled at Samsung Unpacked, a special event scheduled for March 15. The official launch will likely arrive soon afterward in April.

Beyond a few rumored specs, no one really knows what to expect when the Galaxy S4 release date arrives. That is until a benchmark for Samsung's new flagship smartphone leaked online via GLBenchmark. You can see it yourself over at sammobile.com?.

So here's what we expect to see when the Galaxy S4 release date finally arrives this spring, according to the latest Samsung leak:

- Full HD (1920?1080) Display

- no on-screen navigation bar

-?Qualcomm CPU processor chip

Before we get to the most controversial part of the Samsung benchmark, let's first address the rumor that the new smartphone will feature a Qualcomm processor. Not only is it highly unlikely that this is true based on the South Korean company's history of designing their own chips from the ground up, but we're all but certain that when the Galaxy S4 release date arrives the device will sport the Exynos 5 Octa 8-core processor that Samsung has been parading around recently.

Check out this video from CES of Samsung teasing the Galaxy S4 release date by showing off the new processor:

"This benchmark could actually be a hoax as the device packs a Qualcomm CPU and Samsung would never use a Qualcomm SoC in their high-end smartphone but we are not sure," speculates the Samsung Mobile device focused news-site.

The possibility that the navigation bar (that dropdown notification center that Samsung introduced and has now become ubiquitous on all devices) might disappear is much more interesting news. If this proves true the Galaxy S4 release date could mark new innovation from the company that's made a name for itself adding their own features and feel on top of Google's Android OS.

If the navigation bar is no more what will replace it? The possibilities are endless but we won't know anything until the Galaxy S4 release date arrives in spring 2013.

Here's a rundown of specs and features we think will likely be announced along with the official Galaxy S4 release date:

-Exynos 5 Octa processor CPU

-Mali-T678 GPU

-SuperAMOLED Full HD Resolution Display

-4.99-inch screen

-2GM RAM

-13 megapixel rear camera capable of shooting 1080p full HD video at a rate of 30FPS

-2 megapixel front-facing camera capable of shooting 720p HD video

-Android 4.2.2 out of the box

-Battery 2600 mAh

-The Galaxy S4 will reportedly come with a clear cover, flip cover, protective cover, pouch, extra battery kit, wireless charging kit, HDTV adapter and headset.

Along with the Galaxy S4 release date, it turns out "Project J" also refers to two other devices which are all being developed together and will likely launch at the same time. According to Sam Mobile:

"One of the devices is of course the Galaxy S IV or GT-I9500 or Altius or Project J, just how you like to call it. The other 2 devices by Samsung is the Project J Mini which uses the codename Serrano. The Project J mini Serrano simple hints to the Galaxy S IV mini. This device uses almost the same accessories as the Galaxy S IV only this device can't use the wireless charging dock."

The final device expected to debut alongside the Galaxy S4 release date is currently only known as "Project J Active." As the name suggests, this will be some sort of product meant for use during athletic activity and will likely attach to the user like a bracelet or wristwatch.

Before you get to excited over the latest Galaxy S4 release date news, don't forget that Sam Mobile has a somewhat hit-or-miss track record when it comes to Samsung predictions. However, the South Korean tech giant does have a history of releasing cheaper versions of their popular products. The Galaxy Nexus tablet was followed by the weaker Galaxy Nexus S, so Galaxy S4 mini isn't out of the question.

The biggest reason to be excited about the Galaxy S4 release date may just be Samsung's much hyped Exynos 5 Octa dual-core chip, which incorporates the Exynos 5 dual-core chip (sported by the Chromebook) into its impressive design. The new chip will likely feature four high-powered CPU cores alongside four low powered cores, making it one of the most powerful mobile processors on the planet.

We've also heard rumors that when the Galaxy S4 release date arrives the new device will feature an S Pen like the one included with Samsung's Note 2. This makes sense, considering the popularity of the Note and the S4's massive screen.

"The Samsung Galaxy S IV might be the first handset in the series to launch with an S Pen and the accompanying functionality as Samsung is allegedly looking to unite its Note series with the flagship Galaxy S IV," Phone Arena?reported via Korean news-site called Enuri.

One thing we don't expect to see with the Galaxy S4 release date is Google's highly anticipated new operating system, Android 5.0 key Lime Pie. A few rumors have surfaced suggesting Google might use the new device's launch as a springboard for their new OS, but it seems far more likely that they'll wait for a clearly Google-branded device, like the upcoming Motorola X Phone.

That's all we know about the Galaxy S4 release date so far, but check back soon. We'll continue to follow this story as Samsung's "next big thing" draws closer.
